I have proficiency with Recap Photo, creating models from photos or laser scanning for reverse engineering and studying nature. This work includes modeling underwater -- coral reefs, ship wrecks (USS Arizona), and other infrastructure both above and below the water line. I also have experience with converting captured data into models suitable for analysis or design/construction.
As a Technical Solutions Executive, my current role at Autodesk involves working to evolve design and construction workflows utilizing our newer solutions like: Forge, BIM360 Build & Construct, along with our content creation solutions like Revit, Inventor, Fusion360, and AutoCAD.
On their own each of these solutions are powerful but when combined they can have game-changing impacts on both design and make-and-construct workflows. One area I've been focused on lately has been obtaining a better understanding of designing in context of our surrounding environment, often a better design involves understanding the environmental context in play. However, modeling a surrounding environment can pose a challenge where some of our reality-capture technologies can help. I've been involved with pioneering the use of photography to help model these natural existing conditions. With the use of our Recap Photo service we have been able to stretch our ability to understand and set baselines on local conditions. We can now use cameras both in the air with drones and underwater with dive teams to model our natural environment and better understand how our designs react to and affect our surrounding ecosystems.
The advantages of these new capabilities often go beyond simply a better design and make process, they also impact general public understanding on projects which aids in communication on what are often very complex projects.
As this work has progressed I've become proficient with the use of photography equipment, drones and the optimal photo sequence required for modeling, underwater capture equipment and best practices for modeling underwater infrastructure and natural reef environments.
